Punjab Government launches crackdown against the transporters

DCO lahoreLahore: Transport Department has launched a crackdown against transporters for not reducing fares after decrease in the prices of petroleum products.

According to Secretary Transport, on the direction of Chief Minister Punjab, fares were reduced for transferring benefit of decrease in prices of petroleum products to the people and action was taken against transporters for overcharging. 688 vehicles were impounded, 94 transporters arrested while a fine of more than Rs. 10 lakh was received. 12 bus stands were sealed while dozens of route permits were cancelled.Commissioner Lahore-2

According to details, in Lahore division, 122 vehicles were impounded on overcharging, 39 transporters arrested while a fine of Rs.1.07 lakh was received.  In Gujranwala division, 108 vehicles were impounded on overcharging while a fine of one lakh 60 thousand and 900 rupees was received.

In Sahiwal divisionCDGL -1, 104 vehicles were impounded on overcharging, two transporters arrested while a fine of Rs. 61500 was received and three bus stands were sealed. In Faisalabad division, 62 vehicles were impounded on overcharging, 11 transporters arrested while a fine of Rs.70 thousand was received and route permits of nine vehicles were cancelled. In Dera Ghazi Khan division, 61 vehicles were impounded on overcharging, three transporters arrested while a fine of Rs.1.26 lakh was received. In Bahawalpur division, 70 vehicles were impounded on overcharging, 17 transporters arrested while a fine of one lakh, 65 thousand and 600 rupees was received and three bus stands were sealed. In Sargodha division, 52 vehicles were impounded on overcharging, 14 transporters arrested while a fine of Rs.1.85 lakh was received. In Rawalpindi division, 70 vehicles were impounded on overcharging, seven transporters arrested while a fine of Rs.62300 was imposed and two route permits were cancelled. In Multan division, 39 vehicles were impounded on overcharging, one transporter arrested while a fine of Rs.90 thousand was received.
