Lahore: The first National Women Pentathlon Championship was inaugurated on Tuesday (January 20) at Punjab Football Stadium. The championship is being organized by Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (PMPF) under the auspices of Sports Board Punjab (SBP).
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Riaz Fityana, President Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (PMPF), Mrs Abida Umar, Chairperson PMPF Women Wing and Tanzila Amir Cheema, vice-president PMPF besides large number of pentathlon players from all the five participating teams – Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Balochistan and Islamabad.
Prior to the opening ceremony, players of all the five teams featured in first phase shooting and athletics competitions. Overall, ten matches were contested among the players of different teams on Tuesday.
The quarterfinal, semifinal and final competitions of the 2-day tournament will be contested on Wednesday (January 21). Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar will distribute the prizes among the prominent performers of the championship at prize distribution ceremony on January 22.
According to results, Punjab players dominated the proceedings winning four competitions out of ten contests. Two players each from Islamabad and Balochistan emerged winners where as Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa players tasted one victory each.
