British High Commission officials express concern on protest against caricature

UK Embassy in PakistanLahore: The Public Relations officials at the embassies of Britain and the European Union in Islamabad contacted the Secretary General of the Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch by telephone on Saturday and discussed with him the world wide protest on the publication of blasphemous caricatures in by a French journal. The Political Secretary and the deputy Secretary at the British High Commission, also called on the JI Secretary General in the city today to discuss the issue.

Liaqat Baloch said on the occasion that the JI had made an appeal to the minorities in the country to join the protest million march next Friday. He said that the million march and the protest was being held to give a message to Europe and the US that respect for all religions was inevitable for world peace. He said that there could not be any compromise on the dignity of the Holy Prophet.  He stressed that the governments in Europe and the US should look at the issue objectively and stop the incidents of sacrilege and blasphemy of the Holy Prophet and Islamic symbols in the name of freedom of expression.

The JI leader slated the lathi charge and firing on the IJT rally in Karachi. He also appealed to the people to avoid violence in their protest rallies.
