Lahore: Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (PMPF) is going to organise inaugural National Women Pentathlon Championship from January 20, 2015 at Punjab Football Stadium.
According to SBP spokesman, six teams from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Balochistan, Islamabad and Azad Kashmir will take part in the 2-day championship which will be staged under the banner of Sports Board Punjab (SBP). Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar will be the chief guest on the opening day.
He said that around 60 players of the above-mentioned teams will exhibit their potential in shooting and athletics competitions in the historic championship. “The 2-day training camp for the preparation of national women event will be organized on January 18 and19,” he informed. “Multan will host Inter-Division Women Pentathlon Championship in April this year,” he further added.
In his media talk, Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar, who will open the tournament on 20th of this month, said that the future of pentathlon was bright in Pakistan. “There is no dearth of sports potential among Pakistan men and women and there is no doubt about the bright prospects of this new game in our country,” he added.
Highlighting the role of Sports Board Punjab in games promotion throughout the country, Usman Anwar said that nobody can deny the excellent services rendered by the Sports Board Punjab. “Our athletes are winning titles not only within the country but also on foreign land as well,” he elaborated.
Meanwhile, Union International Pentathlon Federation (UIPF) has recognized Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (PMPF) as its member. It was revealed in the first general council meeting of PMPF that was held under the chairmanship of Riaz Fityana at a local hotel.
Mrs Abida Umar was elected the chairperson and Zahoor Ahmed and Mrs Chand Perveen as members of PMPF Women Wing respectively. Tanzila Amir Cheema and Syed Tahir Fawad will be PMPF’s vice-president and chairman finance committee for the next term.
