Punjab government issues a notification of new transport fares

Lahore: After the announcement in reduction in prices petroleum products by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Punjab government has issued a notification of new transport fares for providing relief to the people.

This was stated by Provincial Minister for Food and Chairman Cabinet Price Control Committee Bilal Yasin while presiding over a meeting, here today. Provincial Minister for Industry Ch. Shafiq Gujjar, Additional Secretary Industry, Secretary Transport and concerned officers were also present on the occasion.

Secretary Transport informed the meeting that a notification for decreasing transport fares according to new prices of petroleum products have been issued, according to which, seven percent decrease has been made in the fares of vehicles running on petrol whereas eight percent in the vehicles running on diesel on inter-city routes. He further told that a notification for reducing seven paisa per km in the fares of vehicles plying on intra-city routes has also been issued.

Secretary Transport told that Goods Transport Association has also announced to reduce eight percent fares of goods transport. He told that 2331 petrol pumps were raided last night and a fine of Rs.7.31 lakh was imposed to petrol pumps involved in overcharging, FIRs were registered against nine owners of petrol pumps, five were arrested whereas 26 petrol pumps were sealed.

The meeting was told that Commissioners and DCOs have been directed to implement new fares and raiding teams have been activated by District Administrations in this regard.

Bilal Yasin while issuing instructions said that provision of maximum relief to the people is priority of the government. He warned that no negligence will be tolerated in this regard. He directed that new fares should be implemented strictly. The Food Minister said that Rs. 25 per 20kg atta bag have been reduced. He directed District Administration to issue notification of new price of Roti and ensure implementation on it.
