Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has made announcements to support a group in Lahore Press Club elections 2015. Shahbaz Sharif had also supported the same group in elections 2014 but the journalist community defeated them with clear margin by their power of vote.
The CM announced to set up a utility store and center of excellence in Journalists’ Colony, Lahore. He directed to constitute a committee for resolving other problems of journalists.
The committee will comprise Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Spokesman Punjab government Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Secretary Information, Secretary Higher Education, Press Secretary to Chief Minister, senior journalist and analyst Salman Ghani and a candidate for president in LPC elections Najam Wali.
The committee will consider the matters with regard to provision of laptops, soft terms loans for purchasing motorcycles, Phase-II of Journalists’ Colony Lahore and issuance of medical health cards to journalists.
Special Assistant Azm-ul-Haq, spokesman Punjab government Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Parliamentary Secretary Information Rana Muhammad Arshad, Secretary Information Momin Agha, Press Secretary to Chief Minister Shoaib Bin Aziz and DGPR Athar Ali Khan were also present on the occasion.
Those who met the Chief Minister included Salman Ghani, Ch Khadim Hussain, Naveed Chaudhry, Abid Tahami, President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist Rana Muhammad Azeem, Najam Wali, Mian Habib Ullah, Naeem Mustafa, President Electronic Media Association Asim Naseer, Zaheer Babar, Muhammad Aslam, Candidate for Treasurer Amjad Usmani, candidate for Secretary Zahid Abid and candidate for Joint Secretary Saima Nawaz.
Shahbaz Sharif said the role of media is of great importance in the present situation and the nation rightly expects from media that it will continue to play positive role for safeguarding national interests in the war against terrorism. He said that genuine problems of journalists’ community were also solved on priority basis and will be solved in future as well.
