Provincial Zakat Council gives approval to the release of 1.5 billion to District Zakat Committees

Provincial Zakat CouncilLahore: Provincial Zakat Council has given approval to the release of one billion, 46 crore, 15 lakh and 15 thousand rupees in various heads to District Zakat Committees and institutions as second sixth  monthly installment for the year 2014-15 for providing subsistence allowance, educational scholarships (general), treatment of deserving patients in provincial, district and tehsil headquarter hospitals, marriage grant for deserving girls, scholarships for male and female students getting vocational education and leprosy patients.

It was decided in the 155th meeting of the Provincial Zakat Council presided over by its Chairman Justice (R) Akhtar Hasan. Secretary Zakat & Ushr Habib ur Rehman Gillani, Administrator Zakat Punjab Muhammad Yousaf Butt, Deputy Administrator Zakat (Field) Rana Muhammad Sajjad Babar, officers of Finance and Local Government Departments, Council members Hafiz Zubair Ahmed Zaheer, Maulana Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Muhammad Azhar Farooqi and Ms. Tanveer Kausar.

Provincial Zakat Council gave approval to the release of 57 crore, 29 lakh, 40 thousand and 5000 rupees for payment of Rs. one thousand per deserving person as subsistence allowance, five crore, 16 lakh and 99 thousand rupees as educational scholarships (general) for deserving male and female students of educational institutions, four crore, 59 lakh, 54 thousand and five hundred rupees for scholarships to deserving students of religious seminaries, three crore, 44 lakh, 66 thousand and five hundred rupees to district and tehsil headquarter hospitals for the treatment of deserving patients, 12 crore 44 lakh for hospitals and health institutions at provincial level, four crore, 59 lakh, 54 thousand and five hundred rupees as marriage grant for deserving girls, 52 crore, 61 lakh and nine thousand rupees for scholarships to deserving students studying at vocational training institutes and six crore rupees for leprosy patients.

Moreover, the Council also gave approval to the release of funds of three crore, 24 lakh and 52 thousand rupees for 6144 boy and girl students of 180 educational institutions of 18 districts and four crore, 73 lakh and 48 thousand rupees for 21034 deserving students of two hundred religious seminaries of 20 districts of Punjab. It may be mentioned that Council has already given approval to the increase of subsistence allowance from Rs. Five hundred to Rs. one thousand and marriage grand from Rs. 10 thousand to 20 thousand. The Council also gave approval to the increase in the salaries of Zakat paid staff. The meeting also expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over Peshawar tragedy and offered fateha for the martyrs.
