Lahore: An agreement has been made between Health Department Punjab and Kidney and Liver Institute for setting up Punjab Kidney & Liver Transplant and Research Center in Lahore. Under the agreement, the Institute will be set up over 50 acre land. The hospital to be constructed in the Institute will consist of 750-beds whereas medical college, nursing college and medical university will be established in the Institute. Punjab government will provide an amount of Rs. 13 billion for the construction of the institute and provision of other facilities. Secretary Health Jawad Rafique Malik signed the agreement on behalf of Punjab government while Dr. Saeed Akhtar on behalf of Kidney and Liver Institute. Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said that the agreement between Punjab government and Kidney and Liver Institute for setting up Punjab Kidney & Liver Transplant and Research Center in Lahore is a welcome step. He said that modern treatment facilities will be available to the citizens after completion of this project.
The Chief Minister said that first state-of-the-art Kidney & Liver Transplant and Research Center of Pakistan is being set up at Knowledge Park Lahore where free treatment facilities will be provided to poor patients. He said that with the construction of the institute, latest treatment facilities will be available to the patients under one roof. Shahbaz Sharif said that facility of medical education of undergraduate and postgraduate level will be available to the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff in the institute. He said that an autonomous board of governors will run the institute. He said that work should be carried out with national spirit and hard work for early completion of this public-welfare project.
The Chief Minister said that Punjab government is taking practical steps for improving public health facilities. He said that every possible step is being taken for providing quality medical facilities to the poor people and billions of rupees are being spent on the provision of modern medical facilities to the people and uplift of health sector. Dr. Saeed Akhtar of Kidney & Liver Institute said that work will be carried out on the project with hard work, transparency and speed in accordance with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and the project will be completed at the earliest.
Advisor on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique, Parliamentary Secretary on Health Khawaja Imran Nazir, MPA Nadia Aziz, Chief Secretary, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Higher Education and officials of Kidney & Liver Institute, members of Board of Governors and medical experts were present on the occasion.
