An autonomous institution of Nureau Sciences would be established:Secretary Health Punjab

Commissioner Lahore Jawad Rafique MalikLahore: Secretary Health Punjab, Jawad Rafique Malik has said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, additional funds will be provided for making state-of-the-art Punjab Institute of Nureau Sciences (PINS) operational. He said that PINS will be run as an autonomous institution and a board of management will be set up for dealing with its administrative affairs.

He was presiding over a meeting regarding PINS, here today. Principal Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI), Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Prof. Anjum Habib Vohra, Chief Planning Officer Health Department Abdul Haq Bhatti, Prof. Khalid Mehmood and officers of Finance and Planning & Development Departments were present.

Giving a briefing on PINS, Dr. Amjad Habib Vohra said that 10-storey building of PINS has been completed and planning has been made for making its emergency department operational by June 2015. He said that an additional grant of Rs.350 million is required for this purpose. He further said that 5500 operations are conducted in Neuro Surgery Department of Lahore General Hospital annually while treatment facilities are being provided to 300 patients in outdoor ward and an average of 100 patients in emergency.

He said that the setting up of the institute will help provide diagnostic and operation facilities of international standard to patients of mental diseases and Neuro surgery. He said that this project will be completed in two phases at a total estimated cost of Rs.2745 million. He said that revised PC-I has been sent to P&D Department.

Prof. of Neuro surgery Dr. Khalid Mehmood informed that Rs.300 million have been released for the project during the current year and in addition to beds, equipment for two operation theaters have also arrived.

 Secretary Health Jawad Rafique Malik said that Health Department will provide additional funds of Rs.350 million for making operational the department of emergency services of the institute by June 2015. He also issued instructions for the construction of building towers in LGH for PGMI and Ameer-ud-Din Medical College and directed that PC-I for both the projects be prepared. He said that PINS to be constructed on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, will be equipped with modern facilities and it will be a special institute which will cater to the academic and training activities of students of PGMI and Ameer-ud-Din Medical College.
