Re-elections could take place in 8 months: Ch Brothers

Ch BrothersLahore: Pakistan Muslim League-Q President and former Prime Minister Senator Ch Shujat Hussain has said that re-elections could take place in next 6 to 8 months, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) should be fully authorized.

He said this while talking to media in Karachi on Thursday along with senior central leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Ch Parvez Elahi, Moonis Elahi MPA, provincial President Haleem Adil Shaikh and other leaders.

In Karachi, they offered their condolences with former National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza and Abdullah Hussain Haroon over the passing away of their mothers respectively and wife of Boostan Ali Hoti by visiting their residences.

Replying to questions from the media at the residence of Abdullah Hussain Haroon, Ch Shujat Hussain said that all three retired judges whose names had come to the fore for the appointment as the Chief Election Commissioner were respectable and good, any one of them could have been appointed, real thing were the powers which the CEC do not have and has powers equal to any Member of the Commission.

In reply to a question about consultations with all regarding CEC’s appointment, he said this was not right, we were not consulted whereas Imran Khan do not accept the present Election Commission, what opinion he will give about anyone, there was no need for consulting all, he added.

Ch Parvez Elahi on this occasion said that former CEC Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim had also resigned because the Chairman of the Commission did not have more powers than the Members.

He said further that everywhere slogans of” Go Nawaz, Go Shahbaz” were being raised but the rulers were not ready to quit the power though they will have to go.

About a question regarding mid-term election, Ch Shujat Hussain said that there was no question of mid-term elections because those will be held under the present system but he was noticing a change, re-elections cannot be ruled out in next 6 to 8 months and prior to that electoral reforms were inevitable.

Replying to questions from the media about Punjab, Ch Parvez Elahi said that entire govt infrastructure had been destroyed in the province, when Shahbaz Sharif was out of the country entire system comes to a half as none had any power. He said that we had not only provided revolutionary facilities to the handicapped persons but also increased quota for the blinds in jobs during our tenure. He said the treatment meted out to those who demanded implementation of this quota was deplorable in all respects.
