PU VC lays foundation stone of expansion of CCT

PULahore: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has laid foundation stone of expansion project of Centre for Coal Technology at New Campus here on Thursday.

A ceremony was organized at the centre’s lawns in which Dean Faculty of Law Prof Dr Shazia Naureen Qureshi, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof Dr Taqi Zahid Butt, Director Centre for Coal Technology Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences Prof Dr Zakria Zakir, heads of various institutions and students were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that the United States wanted to occupy all the energy resources of the world and wanted to deprive his enemies from their own energy resources. He said that after 9/11, the US forces occupied energy resources of various countries. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Shahid Munir said that the resources of coal were future of Pakistan as the coal reservoirs were estimated at 27 trillion dollars, more than the cost of oil of Saudi Arabia and Iran. He said that if we become able to use our coal reservoirs, the destiny of the nation would change.

He said that CCT had played key role in all the coal projects being launched by the government. He said that after completion of this project, CCT would become the best institution in South Asia in coal technology. He said that 5 state-of-the art libraries would be set up at the centre. He announced that CCT would also launch PhD program next year.
