Lahore: Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that keeping the increasing population within resources is need of the hour for which teachers and Ulema should play their due role for creating awareness among the people particularly in rural areas.
She said this while addressing a function arranged by Marriage Stop Society at a local hotel today. Zakia Shahnawaz said that increasing population is an international issue and effective planning is required for coping with it. She said that Pakistan is the sixth country of the world with regard to population. Provincial Minister said that we have to give preference to family population for family health. She said that besides government, civil society, international and local NGOs and people associated with health sector should make greater efforts so that public health facilities could be available to the people.
Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that Population Welfare Department is fully aware of its responsibilities and engaged in spreading the message of family planning and providing medicines at door step. She said that the department besides creating awareness among the people about family planning and small family through its publicity campaign is also providing facilities through its centers set up at district, tehsil and union council level. Representatives of Health Department, NGOs and family planning addressed the function.
