LGH organizes a workshop on “Role of Laparoscopic Surgery in Gynaecology”

Prof Anjum Habib VohravohraLahore: Department of Obstetrics & Gynaencology of Postgraduate Medical Institute & General Hospital has organized a workshop on “Role of Laparoscopic Surgery in Gynaecology” to highlight the importance of Laproscopic surgical techniques that offer less pain, fewer complications and faster recovery than traditional operations here on Friday.

Speaking on this occasion, Principal Prof Dr Anjum Habib Vohra, said that there was a dire need of getting skill in latest and ultra modern techniques so that Pakistani doctors could compete the world. He said that the use of Laparoscopic surgery was increasing in the country as Laproscopic techniques allowed surgery to be performed with less trauma to patients and minimal damage to body tissues. He said that in many cases, patients go home the same day or the next morning.

Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam urged the doctors to get skill over the latest technology paying full concentration on their professional requirements and education. She said that it was the duty of the doctors to educate the patients about the importance of Laproscopic surgery. Highlighting the Laproscopic surgery she said that this surgery is performed using an instrument called a laproscope, a thin, lighted telescope that is inserted through a tiny, ½ inch incision made in the navel. She said that the laproscope allowed a doctor to see and operate in the abdomen without having to use a long incision.

Prof Dr Shamsa Hamayun said that women in Pakistan were afraid of going major operation during delivery, adding she said that C-section was also considered a bad omen for women’s health. She said after introduction of Laproscopic surgery in gynecology, the risk factor had been reduced to minimum level. She said that by adopting this surgery, they could be able to reduce the chances of fatality of mother and baby at the time of delivery.
