Nurseries of all district headquarters hospitals are being improved: Kh Salman

Salman Rafiq has said that pediatric wards and nurseries of all district headquarters hospitals are being improved and strengthened and a committee comprising Dean Children Hospital Prof. Masood Sadiq, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof. Mahmood Shaukat, Medical Director Children Hospital Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, Prof. Hamayun Iqbal of Services Hospital and Additional Secretary Health (Technical) Dr. Salman Shahid has been set up to review the medical needs of pediatric nurseries. The committee will submit its report within 24 hours, he added.

He was presiding over a high level meeting of medical experts to review the situation regarding death of newborn babies in District Headquarters Hospital Sargodha, at Civil Secretariat today. Secretary Health Jawad Rafiq Malik, Dean Children Hospital Prof. Masood Sadiq, Medical Director Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof. Mahmood Shaukat, Prof. Hayayun Iqbal of Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Director General Health Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, Director Health Services Dr. Jamil Chaudhry and Bio-Medical Engineer Mazhar were present. Pediatric experts expressed their views regarding the causes and mortality rate among newborn babies especially the death of newborns in District Headquarters Hospital Sargodha. A committee was also constituted in the meeting to strengthen pediatric wards and nurseries of all district headquarters hospitals. The committee will comprise Prof. Masood Sadiq, Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, Prof. Mahmood Shaukat, Prof. Hamayun Iqbal, Dr. Jamil Chahudhry and Additional Secretary Health Dr. Salman Shahid and will submit its report within 24 hours.

The meeting decided that Children Hospital Lahore will start a short training course for pediatricians and nurses of all districts from December 1 regarding treatment and look after of children. It was decided that senior pediatricians of Children Hospital Lahore and Allied Hospital Faisalabad will be sent to District Headquarters Hospital Sargodha for monitoring the treatment of newborn babies and the overall situation. Secretary Health Jawad Rafiq Malik issued instructions for immediately sending the first team of Allied Hospital Faisalabad to Sargodha and gave orders on telephone to Principal Punjab Medical College Faisalabad in this regard.
