Punjab Government approves special compensation grant to the dependents of deceased workers quartz stone grinding factories

Minister Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq SarwarLahore: Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on a summary initiated by Punjab Labour and Human Resource Department has approved an amount of Rs.5.4 million as special compensation grant to the dependents of 18 deceased workers quartz stone grinding factories of Gujranwala and Sialkot as Rs.0.300 million each.

Chief Minister has also constituted a committee to take stock of the existing working conditions in the stone grinding factories and ensure compliance with the labour safety standards as per international bench marks. The committee will submit its report to Chief Minister Punjab within a period of four weeks.

Minister Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar is convener of the committee while Secretary Labour, Secretary Environment, Secretary Mines and Minerals, Secretary Industries, Commissioner PESSI, representative of ILO and respective chambers of commerce and industries and any other member co-opted by the committee for included as member of this committee.

The very first meeting of this committee was held in PESSI under chaired Minister Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar while Secretary Labour Farhan Aziz Khawaja, Secretary Industries Arif Anwar Baloch, Secretary Environment Protection Iqbal Muhammad Chauhan, Director Mines, Commissioner PESSI, DG Labour Welfare and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
