Shortlisting for Women Kabaddi World Cup team is started

Lahore: The process of shortlisting for Women Kabaddi World Cup has started here on Saturday at Punjab Stadium. Head coach Ghulam Abbas Butt and skipper Madiha Latif monitored the performance of camp probables minutely in the national women kabaddi camp before selecting the players for mega event.

The Kabaddi World Cup will be played in India in December this year. It may be recalled here that Pakistan women kabaddi team had reached the semifinal stage of their inaugural appearance in the Women Kabaddi World Cup 2013 in India.

In her media talk, Madeeha told that the performance of women players have been monitored completely. “We checked the stamina and techniques of our players by indulging them into practice matches and now we are in a position to select the best possible squad out of 45 probables,” she added.

She further informed that the process of short listing will be completed in the next couple of days and then the final squad will be selected. “Initially we have short-listed ten players and rest of the members of national women Kabaddi team will be selected after the Muharram holidays,” she elaborated.

Madeeha further said that Sports Board Punjab, under the directives of Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar, provided us best possible facilities at the training camp. “Our camp management is quite satisfied with the preparations of our players and with the grace of Allah, we will offer good quality performance in the grand tournament,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the camp probables also played a practice match. The practice match was arranged to gauge the physical fitness and form of women kabaddi probables. The players were divided into two teams – Pakistan ‘A’ and Pakistan ‘B’. Pakistan ‘B’ after a nail-biting contest, won the match by a margin of 53-49.
