GCU syndicate approves initiating law degree

GCULahore: The Government College University, Lahore is going to introduce law degree programmes for which the university’s syndicate has given its initial go-ahead. Law will be the 28th postgraduate academic programme to be initiated in GCU in the tenure of Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman as Vice Chancellor.

The university’s syndicate, in its 45th meeting chaired by the Vice Chancellor, formulated a four-member committee to formulate recommendations for law degree programmes as per the best international standards. Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman told the syndicate that there had been a great demand by eminent lawyers and judges besides students to start law degree at GCU, Lahore. However, he said, quality education was the top priority of the university and law department would also be a centre of excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate law studies and research in the country. The syndicate appreciated the proposal of the Vice Chancellor and given its go-ahead.

Prof Rahman said GCU was also concentrating on infrastructural development for providing facilities to the students of new postgraduate programmes, adding that he had added 26 new offices and classrooms to the university’s infrastructure in the last three years besides upgrading science laboratories and libraries.

He said that the overall student strengthen of GCU had also increased from about 6,500 to 11, 500 in a short span of last three years. He said that the university had also rationalised its academic and examinations rules and regulations as per the international standards, and nobody was allowed to deviate from these rules.
