Government to implement the decisions of the opposition Jirga: Sirajul Haq

Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Sirajul Haq, has impressed upon the government to show large-heartedness and  implement the decisions arrived at with the opposition Jirga during the PTI_PAT sit-ins.

He was addressing a joint press conference with the PTI Vice Chairman, Shah Mehmud Qureshi, after a call on by a PTI delegation. The delegation included KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, and PTI Punjab chief, Ijaz Chaudhry.

The JI chief said that so far, neither any draft regarding the electoral reforms had been received from the government nor the JI had been informed of any progress on this score. He said if the government delayed the setting up of the Judicial Commission and the reconstitution of the Election Commission in spite of its announcement in this regard, the next elections would also be controversial.

Sirajul Haq said the rulers should not be under the misconception that the threat to the government had been removed after Tahir ul Qadri’s lifting the sit-in. He said if the government did not honour its commitment, the crisis would deepen. He said that the so far, the PTI’s attitude had been positive and is leaders were still willing to resume talks. Therefore, it had become imperative for the government to demonstrate a positive attitude and restart the talks for putting the things in order.

The JI chief said that if electoral reforms were not carried out, it would become difficult to bring the voters to the polling stations in future. He said the general public had lost trust in the prevailing election system because there was no transparency in the entire system of elections. In the present system, a common man could not even think of returning to the parliament. Politics had become business, the people had been voting time and again but there had been no change. As such, time had come that the political parties rose above party interests and tried to find the solution of the common man’s problems.

Earlier, Shah Mehmud Qureshi, told newsmen that the PTI-JI coalition in KP had been a good experience and the PTI delegation had called on the JI chief to find out ways and means for improving the working relationship between the two parties.

Meanwhile, Ameer Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Sirajul Haq has said there was no rule of law in the country a present and it was imperative that the people, including the lawyers, came on roads against the so called democracies. He was addressing a delegation of the Lahore District Bar Association that called on him at Mansoora on Monday. The 15-member delegation included the Bar president and secretary.

The JI chief said that there were separate laws for the rich and the poor. A poor man rushed from one end to the other for justice but failed. He said whether it was martial law or so-called democracy, the same VIP class had been in power for the last 67 years. The children of the rulers studied abroad whereas the children of the poor went to schools which did not have even the tat( mat for seating) and chalk. He said the oppression and exploitation of the ruling elite had become intolerable and it had become obligatory to rise against them. He said that the JI Ijtema from Nov. 21 to 23 would be the revival of the Pakistan movement for building an Islamic Pakistan.

Sirajul Haq said that the masses had rejected the overbilling by WAPDA, and remarked that the people dreaded WAPDA more than the snakes and scorpions.

The JI chief said the bar delegation had assured him of their all out support for establishing the supremacy of the constitution and the law and for removing the deprivations of the masses.

Sirajul Haq paid tributes to the lawyers’ community for its sacrifices for democracy and rule of law during Musharraf rule.

The JI chief said that unfortunately, the beginning of the month of Muharram gave an impression of that this was a month of warfare and  many people remained indoors out of fear. He said, in fact, this month gave the message of struggle against tyranny and injustice. He urged the Ulema and the masses to maintain unity in their ranks and foil the evil designs of the anti Islam forces.

Sirajul Haq said that Imam Husain did not belong to any particular sect, he was the Imam of the entire Ummah besides being the leader of the youth in paradise. On the other hand, Yazeed was the symbol of tyranny and oppression and the great imam offered the lives of his near and dear ones and his own life fighting against injustice. Therefore, the  nation should rise against the present forces of tyranny following in the footsteps of Imam Husain.

The Lahore District Bar chief Ch. Ishtiaq Ahmed, appreciated the efforts of the JI chief for the preservation of the democratic system during the recent crisis. He also invited the JI chief to the address the Lahore Bar which was accepted.
