PU ASA condemns composition of Provincial HEC

Lahore: Punjab University Academic Staff Association has strongly condemned composition of Provincial Higher Education Commission in a unanimous resolution passed in its general body meeting held at auditorium of Institute of Chemistry here on Tuesday.

The general body meeting was presided over by a large number of teachers from all the departments of Punjab University. The meeting said that under the current composition, the establishment of HEC was a conspiracy to attack the autonomy of institutions of higher learning and put it under the control of bureaucracy.

PUASA said that teachers had not been taken into confidence regarding appointment of members of Provincial Higher Education Commission and ASA had reservations on it.

PUASA said that a meeting of FAPUASA will be summoned to finalize further course of action. PUASA also opposed funding of private universities by the government and said that public money must be used on public sector universities only.
