Health Departments punjab confirms 301dengue patients during current year

Salman Rafique has said that due to coordinated efforts of all departments, the dengue situation is under control in Lahore and Sheikhupura however there is a need for effective measures and hard work in Rawalpindi where Rawal Town and Cantonment areas have been more affected by dengue virus. He directed that all concerned departments and institutions should continue their ongoing campaign against dengue.

He was presiding over a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Dengue at Civil Secretariat here today. Additional Secretary Health (Technical) Dr. Salman Shahid, DG Health Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, Additional Director General Health (Vector-Born Diseases) Dr. Islam Zafar besides senior officers of concerned departments and WASA, Solid Waste Management, PITB and Special Branch were present.

Dr. Islam Zafar informed that 95 cases of dengue are under treatment in various hospitals of Lahore and Rawalpindi and the condition of all patients is satisfactory. He said that total number of confirmed dengue patients is 301 so far whereas it was 458 by this time last year.

Dr. Islam Zafar further told that there are 41 confirmed dengue cases in Lahore and 32 in Sheikhupura. The meeting also reviewed dengue control measures especially in Lahore, Sheikhupura and Rawalpindi. Officers of concerned departments and EDO Health Lahore informed about indoor and outdoor dengue surveillance activities.

Kh. Salman Rafique expressed satisfaction over dengue surveillance measures adopted by different departments. He said that there is a need for greater efforts and effective steps to control dengue in Rawalpindi. He said that he remained in Rawalpindi during last four days to personally monitor anti-dengue activities and will again visit the city for normalizing the situation.
