Lahore: The political Jirga on Sunday released the second part of its suggestions to the media.
The suggestions have been framed by the Jirga members Sirajul Haq, Rehman Malik, Liaqat Baloch, Hasil Bizenjo, G. G. Jamal and Perveen Kulsoom.
The Jirga defined the word “rigging” for the consideration of the
Judicial Commission, as 1) rigging before the polling, 2) rigging on the polling day, 3) irregularities after polling, 4) the role of the government in such rigging, 5) the role of the Election Commission in rigging, 6) PML(N) or Mian Nawaz Sharif’s role if any, in rigging, and the effects of such rigging with the connivance of the provincial or federal governments. The Jirga proposed that the two sides could agree on a time frame for the completion of the enquiry on these issues.
PAT versus Government
- The F.I.R. in respect of the Model Town tragedy has already been registered and the PAT and the government have already agreed on the setting up a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) headed by a senior Police Officer and comprising representing M.I, I.S.I, I.B. and Special Branch. The Notification about the JIT was expected soon with the aim of creating an atmosphere of trust between the two sides.
- It is learnt that political cases have been registered against PTI and PAT workers. The Jirga feels that if the federal and the Punjab governments withdrew these cases, it would be good gesture as it would help reduce the political temperature, and also provide great relief to the families of these workers.
- In the light of our earlier proposals, if the basic appeal regarding the Model Town tragedy, in which fourteen people were killed, was transferred to some other province, it would be a goodwill gesture, and promote understanding between the government and the PAT. The Jrirga also proposed that all the workers of the PTI and PAT arrested after June 23, should be released forthwith.
The Jirga noted that the PAT had been holding talks with the government and was awaiting a written confirmation but the arrests of a member of the PAT negotiating team created deadlock. The release of the arrested member and workers would end the dead lock and help restore the dialogue process.
The Jirga proposed that the demand relating to the National Reforms should be implemented in true spirit and as already agreed between the government and the PAT, a National Reforms Commission should be set up under a reputed public servant known for honesty and integrity.
The Jirga has already given practical proposal on the demand in regard to the Prime Minister’s resignation, and the demand for the resignation of the Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, can also be dealt with if Mian Shahbaz Sharif make a similar statement in the Punjab Assembly.
The Jirga proposed that the primary issue between the three parties related to the resignation of the Prime Minister while the issue between the government and the PAT related to the resignation of the Punjab Chief Minister and winding up all political cases against them. The Jirga has discussed all the issues separately, and has given suggestions for their solution. The Jirga proposes that the victimization of the PAT and PIT workers should stop as it had already harmed the dialogue.
The Jirga appealed to the three parties, the government, the PTI sand the PAT to complete their talks in the light of their mutual agreements and in the light of the proposals given by the Jirga so that the issues could be resolved at the earliest in the larger interest of the nation and the country.
