PKI gains majority support of the growers:elected President Rao Tariq Ishfaq

PKI news president addressing central council meetingLahore: The intra-party elections of the Pakistan Kissan Ittehad were held under supervision of the PKI’s 3-member Election Commission.

The members of the Central Council of the PKI elected Rao Tariq Ishfaq as Central President and Rana Ghulam Qadir as President of its Punjab chapter with show of hand. Other elected office-bearers include Central General Secretary Imran Nasir, col ® Raja Javaid Mujtaba and Mian Arshad Laleka as senior vice presidents, Mian Gul Muhammad as vice president, Ishtiaq Kahloon joint secretary, Malik Zulfiqar secretary Finance and Muhammad Siddiq Numberdar Secretary Information for a period of 3-years. In election of the PKI’s Punjab Chapter Rana Ghulam Qadir was elected as President, and Chaudhry Muhammad Afzaal as General Secretary.

Addressing the Central Council meeting, newly elected President Rao Tariq Ishfaq threw light on the objectives and achievements of the Pakistan Kissan Ittehad. He said the PKI had gained majority support of the growers and remained in struggle for their rights in a very limited period of time after its foundation in 2012. In his address and talk to the media, Chairman Pakistan Kissan Ittehad Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar expressed his concern over the miserable conditions of the farmers due to flood in the province of Punjab, Sindh and Kashmir.

He criticized the government policy for not yet creating consensus for the construction of the long awaited controversial Kalabagh dam project. “If the people had been priority of the rulers, definitely there should have not been wasted the national exchequer over the Metro Bus projects in big cities and the funds would have been spent on the production of electricity and dams,” the PKI Chief lamented with a commitment to create awareness among the masses for their rights.
