Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Sirajul Haq, has said that the government had miserably failed to protect the masses from the floods.Government miserably failed to protect the masses from the floods, Sirajul Haq

Talking to the media during a visit to the relief collection camps set up by the JI and the Al-Khidmat Foundation at Chuburji Chowk, for the flood hit people, he said that the country had been hit by floods for the last many years causing huge loses of life and property. However, none of the government had not made adequate arrangements to  protect the masses.  He questioned the performance of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The JI chief further said that India had again committed water aggression against the country but the rulers in Islamabad were importing onions and potatoes and exchanging cultural troupes to create an impression that India was a friendly country. No honorable Pakistani would buy the idea that India was a friend, he said, and added that the government must approach the UN and the International Court of justice on the issue of water aggression by India.

Sirajul Haq said that the government duty was not merely to give away relief cheques, arrange coffin clothes and offer condolences after deaths. The government was supposed to keep the masses informed of the expected dangers and make preventive measures against calamities.

The JI chief also appealed the nation to rise with the spirit of the 1965 war and spare no efforts for the help of the flood hit brethren. He said that the Lahorites had glorious tradition in this regard and he expressed the hope they  would rise to the occasion.

To a question, the JI chief said the Punjab government’s refusal to accept the help from the Khyber P. government was not good because the offer was a gesture of goodwill and brotherhood from one province to the other in distress.

The JI Lahore chief, Mian Maqsood Ahmed welcomed the JI chief on the occasion and briefed him about the steps being taken by his team for the flood affected millions.
