Lahore: The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) on Thursday said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has fulfilled his promise to relieve masses of queues on the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations by allowing LNG for the CNG sector in Punjab.
In a historic move, the Economic Coordination Council has formally approved supply of LNG to the CNG stations in Punjab which will help them run seven days a week, said Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, leader of the APCNGA.
He said that the momentous decision will get warm response by masses and the CNG community as it will ensure jobs for four hundred thousand people, help 2.5 million owners of CNG converted vehicles to save time and money, reduce fares, oil import bill and pollution, he added.
Ghiyas Paracha, Central Chairman APCNGA Pervaiz Khan Khattak, Brig. (Retd) Iftikhar Ahmed, and Mian Shahid Iqbal said in a statement that the remarkable decision has rescued Rs 450 billion CNG industry helping them come out of disappointment which will send a very positive signal across the globe.
They said that CNG stations across the province of Punjab would be operational soon helping investors as well as masses while the CNG outlets in the Provinces of Sind, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa would continue to get locally produced natural gas according to Article 158 of the constitution.
Ghiyas Paracha said that import of natural gas from friendly countries was not possible due to international pressure and other considerations therefore LNG has emerged as the only option to bridge gap between demand and supply and that any delay would hit the economy.
He said that LNG would be 30 to 35 per cent cheaper as compare to the petrol which would be a gift for the millions of motorists.
The leader of the CNG sector said that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi have been selflessly trying to give new lease of life to the troubled CNG sector and they deserve the credit for recent LNG decision.
