Lahore: Wazirabad Cardiology Institute is one of the many vital health projects, launched by former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and fallen victim to Shahbaz government’s inflated ego. Even after seven years, completion of Lahore’s Mayo Hospital Surgical Tower and Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) on Jail Road is also being delayed just because these crucial health projects were launched by Chaudhry Parvez Elahi back in 2006.
The criminal delay in the completion of these and many other vital health projects has resulted in not only a colossal loss of human life and an immeasurable increase in people’s sufferings but also a huge financial blow to the Punjab exchequer.
These views were expressed by Moonis Elahi, central leader of Pakistan Muslim League in a meeting held today in Lahore with workers of Pakistan Muslim League Doctors Wing, Punjab.
Moonis Elahi accused Shahbaz Sharif’s inflated ego and vindictive attitude as the main hurdles in the provision of various health programmes and services initiated by the PML government in Punjab up to 2007. While our government of Punjab had ensured provision of free medicines to patients living in the remotest corners of the province, today this facility was not even available to patients living in Lahore, pointed out PML central leader. Condemning the incumbent Punjab government’s priorities he asked, If Jangla Bus could be completed in a few months time and at such a huge cost then why couldn’t Wazirabad Cardiology Institute, Lahore Surgical Tower and SIMS Lahore be launched especially when 80 to 90% work on their buildings had been completed in the past by the PML government of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi?
Wazirabad Cardiology Institute was among the four purpose built heart care hospitals launched by Chaudhry Parvez Elahi out of which three were inaugurated in his period and only the one at Wazirabad was to be inaugurated in 2008, informed Moonis Elahi. Wazirabad Cardiology Institute was intended to cater to a very large population living in Jhelum, Gujrat, Wazirabad, Gujranwala and Sheikhupura and would have saved them the aggravation of travelling long distances to Lahore or Rawalpindi for their required medical attention, he further informed.
Condemning the Wazirabad Cardiology Institute launch delay he said, seven years after and with a fully complete building, the fact that Wazirabad Cardiology Institute was not being allowed to serve the people it was meant for said a lot about the unhealthy, vindictive and anti-people attitude of the incumbent N League rulers.
Commenting on a similar completion delay of Mayo Hospital Surgical Tower and SIMS Lahore, Moonis Elahi called their completion delay the work of a butcher, presently occupying Punjab chief minister ship, who could slaughter health based projects with a surgical precision. He reminded the PML Doctors Wing workers of the inhuman murder of 15 innocent PAT workers as also the work of the same butcher.
