Lahore: Assembly members, politicians, traders, philanthropists and people of different walks of life met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif separately today and gave cheques of financial assistance for Rs 24 crore for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for IDPs. Cheques for Rs 13 crore were deposited in the relief fund on behalf of various boards of Education Department and Textbook Board as well as educational institutions while Sports Department presented cheque for Rs. seven crore as income of sports events arranged for the relief of IDPs. District Coordination Officer Sheikhupura Ali Jan gave cheques for Rs one crore 20 lakh on behalf of citizens, traders, industrialists and well-to-do people of the area. MNA Mohsin Shahnawaz and other affluent persons of Sargodha gave cheques for Rs 66 lakh, philanthropists of Narowal Rs one crore two lakh, Livestock Department Rs. 75 lakh, MPA Rana Manan Khan Rs. 10 lakh, Ch. Khalid Manzoor Rs five lakh, Khalid Manzoor Cheema Rs five lakh, MPA Sajjad Gujjar Rs five lakh, MPA Arif Sindhila Rs five lakh, Faizan Virk Rs. five lakh, Rana Tanveer Nasir Rs five lakh and Daewoo Corporation Rs five lakh.
Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif appreciated the humanitarian spirit of the donors and said that they will be rewarded by Allah Almighty for helping the distressed people. He also thanked them for responding to his appeal. He said that every penny of the relief assistance is being spent in a transparent manner.
He said that the persons who have been displaced in the war against terrorism are facing hardships for peace in the country and it is our collective religious and moral responsibility to help them. He said that the government and people of Punjab will not leave their distressed brethren and sisters alone in the hour of need and relief activities will continue till their complete rehabilitation.
Provincial Minister for Sports Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Assembly Members, Secretary Higher Education, Secretary Schools, Chairman Punjab Textbook Board, DG Sports, Vice Chancellors of universities and concerned officers were present on the occasion.
