Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting here today. Federal Minister for Railways Kh. Saad Rafique especially attended the meeting. The meeting discussed arrangements with regard to transportation of coal to be used in the coal power plant being set up in Punjab. Additional Chief Secretary Energy, General Manager Operations Railways and concerned officers attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that early completion of energy projects is top priority. He said that an agreement has been made with consortium of Chinese companies for setting up 1320 megawatt coal based power plants in Sahiwal. He said that work has been started on the coal power projects in Sahiwal.
The Chief Minister said that there is great potential in Rahim Yar Khan, Muzaffargarh and Jhang for setting up coal based power plants. He said that a comprehensive planning should be made for transportation of coal through railway from Karachi Port for coal power plants.
Federal Minister for Railways Kh. Saad Rafique assured that Ministry of Railways will extend all possible cooperation for transportation of coal.
