Desilting of big drains of Lahore is continuing:Bilal Yaseen

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERALahore: Provincial Minister for Food, Bilal Yasin has said that desilting of big drains of Lahore is continuing speedily for the drainage of water of heavy rains of Monsoon. 1600 ton silt has been removed from small Ravi drain under desilting campaign of drains started from May 24.

He expressed these views while reviewing desilting work of small Ravi Drain from Katcha Ravi Road to Saggian Bridge today.

Director Drainage Iftikhar ud Din Naeem, XEN Drainage North Lahore Abid Raza and SDO Khalid Mehmood also accompanied the Minister.

The Minister was informed that four tractors, ten drum trucks and 100 workers are working to remove silt from Ravi drain. He informed that 1600 ton mud has been removed so far from Ravi drain under the campaign started from May 24. He was told that the staff of WASA is working manually and with machinery.

Director Drainage informed the Minister that Ravi drain is one of the six biggest drains of Lahore in which water of the old city, Karim Park, Malik Park, Mohni Road, Gunj Kalan and Nasir Bagh areas falls.

Bilal Yasin was informed that tractor machines were used to remove silt up to tail. The Minister told that the disposal of water will improve through desilting of drains prior to monsoon rains and the rain water will drain out easily and people will get relief during rainy season.
