Sikh demonstrators break the National Assembly gate;Ch Nisar suspends 6 senior officer

Sikh protest in IslamabadLahore: Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar expressed anger on Friday over entrance of Sikh protesters into the parliament building.Expressing rage at the breakage of security gate at the hands of Sikh demonstrators, Chaudhry Nisar said this was a grave security lapse.

A high level session in this regard took place that reviewed the law and order situation under supervision of Interior Minister. The meeting was attending by Chief Commissioner Islamabad among other superior figures from police force.Taking strict action, Nisar suspended Superintendent of Police (SP) National Assembly Habibullah Niazi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) National Assembly Khalid Wirk, DSP Bani Gala Safeer Shah and DSP Secretariat Fida Hussain. The other suspended cops include Station House Officer (SHO) Bara Kaho Sattar Shah and SHO Secretariat Abdul Rahman.

He said that breakage of the gate at the hands of demonstrators is a grave security failure . Interior Minister also ordered inquiry against the personnel who were negligent in the matter. According to sources, Interior Minister has given important directions to the police regarding security of the red zone.

Earlier, dozens of Sikh protesters pushed past the front gate and entered into the grounds of parliament, protesting against alleged desecration of their holy book.

The protestors claimed that multiple incidents of desecration of their holy book have taken place in different areas of Sindh province during last few week. 

Sikh members demanded that they will not move from the parliament house until Prime Minister and Interior Minister give surety regarding arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, member of Natonal Assembly Dr. Darshan and Senator Zafar Ali Shah negotiated with the protestors and assured that that their demands would be addressed.

Later, Sikh community formed a 13-member committee to negotiate with the government and left the parliament premises peacefully.

Senior police officer Aftab Cheema told media that protestors  entrance in the Parliament House is a security failure.

He said investigators would look into how protesters made it past the gate.
