PESHAWAR: A polio eradication campaign supported by Pakistan Army was launched on Thursday at Malak Din Khel area of Bara Khyber Agency
in which 75927 children would be administered polio drops below 10 years age.
National Staff Polio Eradication Officer, Doctor Wazir Akbar on the occasion briefed media that first phase of door to door campaign was started in January 2013 and till fourth phase they have administered polio drops to one lakh and twenty thousand children. He said that they have planned to administer 40,000 children in this phase with the support of security forces.
A religious scholar, Muhammad Khan, speaking on the occasion told media that polio eradication drops were useful for all children and there was no prohibition in Islam. He said that several Mufti’s have issued fatwas in support of administration of polio drops to save their children from crippling disease.
The residents of the area, Muhammad Fawad and Salamat Shah said that they were in favour of polio vaccination to their children. They said that it was useful for children and paid rich tribute to security forces to support them in this regard.
They said that they would administer their children in every polio campaign as it was useful for their children’s health.
