Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project should be completed within stipulated period of ten months and quality of construction work should be maintained at all costs.
He was presiding over a high level meeting to review construction work on Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project at Islamabad today.
Members National and Provincial Assembly and party-ticket holders from Rawalpindi-Islamabad, Federal Secretary Cabinet, Federal Secretary Planning, Chairman CDA, Commissioner Rawalpindi and Project Director Metro Bus Service, Chairman P&D, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Secretary Information Punjab, RPO Rawalpindi, DCO Rawalpindi and other senior officers were present.
He said that a road for shuttle service from Railway Station to Murree Road should be constructed for providing access to the passengers coming from Rawalpindi by train to metro bus.
He directed that a special strategy should be evolved regarding landscaping of metro bus project. He said that Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project should be state-of-the art in every respect.
The Chief Minister said that it should be made binding upon contractors to remove the debris during construction. He said that the problems of the citizens should be lessened through better traffic management and eradication of pollution on Murree Road.
He said that Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project is a splendid public welfare project and delay will not be tolerated.
Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif also constituted an implementation committee headed by former Member National Assembly Muhammad Hanif Abbasi for supervising the construction work on metro bus project and ensuring completion of the project as per quality and schedule. He said that parking plaza should also be constructed at the starting point of metro bus service so that citizens could take maximum benefit from this facility.
He directed that safety of engineers and workers working on the project should be ensured to avoid any accident during implementation of the project. Shahbaz Sharif said that he will himself review progress of construction work on weekly basis.
Commissioner Rawalpindi and Project Director Metro Bus Service Zahid Saeed, giving a special briefing, told that work on metro bus service has been started speedily on three packages in Rawalpindi and four contractors have started practical work by establishing their site offices at Islamabad portion whereas tender of one package will be finalized today.
Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal told the meeting that site for metro bus service depot has been identified and necessary formalities will be completed within a week. Public representatives expressed their satisfaction over the construction of metro bus project and presented various proposals.
