Armed forces should concentrate on country’s defense : Liaqat Baloch

Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the nation was proud of the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces for the defense and the solidarity of the country but any supra constitutional step them would damage their image.

In a message of the martyrs’ day, he said the services of the Pakistan army, air force and the Pakistan navy against terrorism were laudable and the JI paid tributes to the officers and the jawans of the armed forces embracing martyrdom for national defense. However, he said, whenever the armed forces took any step over and above the constitution, their image was hurt and a gap emerged between them and the masses.

Therefore, he said, it was advisable that the armed forces remained within the limits set by the constitution and concentrated on the defense of the country.

Liaqat Baloch said that the eastern wing of the country separated from Pakistan only because of the unconstitutional steps by the civil and the military establishment. He said that the JI leaders and workers had stood by the armed forces at that time and offered countless sacrifices for preventing the fall of Dhaka.

He said it was unfortunate that now when the Haseen Wajid government in Bangladesh was bent upon putting thousands of JI workers and leaders to death  

Merely for siding with the Pakistan army, the rulers in Islamabad were totally indifferent. He said it was the moral and legal duty of the government to take up the issue with the BD government, the world community and the OIC to stop the trials and convictions of the JI workers on so called war crimes.
