Department of Special Education organizes Certificate Distribution Ceremony

Lahore: Punjab University Department of Special Education organized its 1^st Certificate Distribution Ceremony of Short Course on Sign Language.

On this occasion, Special Education Fazil Cheema, Dean Faculty of Education Prof Dr Mumtaz Secretary of Special Education Dr Ambreen Raza, Director Akhter, Incharge Department of Special Education Dr Humara Bano, faculty members, student and staff attended the ceremony. 

In her address, Dr Humara Bano highlighted the need and importance of the short course and requested the secretary to acknowledge the same course by adding it as additional criteria for the selection of special education teachers in the area of hearing impairment in the selection rules of Govt. of the Punjab. She also elaborated that this course would directly help the inclusion of children with hearing impairment in the society.

Dr Ambreen Raza congratulated the department for arranging this course and appreciated the initiative. She also emphasized that this course should be included in general curricula to meet the need of inclusion of persons with hearing impairment. She threw light on special education system in Punjab level by highlighting the achievements as well as faced barriers for this society.

Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhtar welcomed the secretary and thanked her for visiting the department. She said that the visit of the secretary was ray of hope to acknowledge the importance of this course.

The Sign Language Instructor of Special Education Department Hafiz Muhammad Afzaal shared the entire key not speaker’s thoughts with Deaf and Dumb students’ thoughts interpretation in Sign Language throughout the ceremony. At the end Dr Rukhsana Bashir presented the vote of thanks to all guests.
