Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the blind following of the dictates of the IMF by the rulers had pushed the country’s economy to the brink of ruin.
Addressing an anti-Privatization seminar under the aegis of the National Labour Federation at JI Lahore office, he said that if the trillions siphoned off the national economy through corruption had come in circulation lawfully, the country would not have required foreign loans. He said the rulers were privatizing major public sector concerns only to benefit their near and dear ones.
Liaqat Baloch said that the government policies were destructive and a serious threat to the country’s existence and independence. He said the Nawaz regime had disappointed the masses.
NLF chief, Shamsur Rahman Swati, in his address, said it was essential to bring to light the facts regarding privatization. He said the anti= privatization movement was against the US and its allies as also the feudal lords and capitalists.
He said that thousands of human beings had starved in Africa while the US was dumping tons of its surplus wheat in the sea. He said that 88 per cent of the workers and labourers were without basic needs.
Prominent Economist, Dr Shahid Hasan Siddiqui, in his address, said that the accountability of the institutions and their heads specially the NB was essential for putting the things in order.
Former Member, FBR, Sarfraz Ahmed Khan, urged the nation to stand behind the anti privatization movement and stop the rulers from anti worker policies.
