Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that planning has been made for setting up a state-of-the-art institute in Lahore for the treatment of kidney and liver diseases. He said that modern treatment facilities would be available to the patients in kidney and liver institute and this project would be completed expeditiously. He said that satellite centres of the institute would be set up in Faisalabad and Multan. He said that free treatment facilities would be available to poor patients at the kidney and liver institute.
He was presiding over a high level meeting regarding the project of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute. Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah, Advisor on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique, Member Provincial Assembly Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development, Commissioner Lahore Division, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University, President Pakistan Kidney Institute and experts attended the meeting.
The Chief Minister said that Punjab government is spending billions of rupees on the development of health sector and provision of modern treatment facilities to the patients. He said that besides medical facilities, free of cost medicines are also being provided to deserving patients in government hospitals. He said that new hospitals equipped with modern health facilities have been set up throughout the province while rural and basic health centres are being upgraded for providing quality health services to the people at their doorstep. He said that kidney and liver institute is the need of the hour and the government would extend all out cooperation for this purpose. He said that a research centre would also be set up at the institute. He said that philanthropists and experts would be included in the board of governors of the institute. He said that surgery, medical treatment, diagnostic and all necessary facilities would be ensured in the institute.
The Chief Minister while setting up a steering committee headed by Chairman Planning & Development directed the committee to submit a comprehensive report regarding the financial models design and other matters pertaining to the proposed project within six weeks. He also formed a committee headed by Dr. Nasrullah Chaudhary for technical consultation which would submit its recommendations regarding the proposed project of kidney and liver institute.
