Lady Health Workers are the backbone of health care system:DG Health Dr. Zahid Pervaiz

DG Health PunjabLahore: Director General Health Punjab Dr. Zahid Pervaiz has said that Lady Health Workers (LHWs) and Community Midwives (CMWs) are the backbone of health care system. He said that Lady Health Workers play a pivotal role in promoting mother & child health, controlling epidemics and disseminating public health messages.

He stated this while addressing award giving ceremony to the Lady Health Workers and Community Midwives showing best performance. The ceremony was arranged by an NGO, Save the Children Pakistan here on Wednesday at a local hotel.

On this occasion, brand ambassador of Save the Children Pakistan Tauseeq Haider, Director MNCH Programme Dr. Zafar Ikram, Additional Director General Health Integrated Management Of New Born Childhood Health (IMNCH) Dr. Tanvir Ahmed, Director Family Planning & Primary Health Dr. Javed Omer, Director Health Sector Reforms Programme Dr. Akhtar Rasheed Malik, representatives of Save the Children Pakistan and a large number of Lady Health Workers and Community Midwives were also present.

Director General Health Dr. Zahid Pervaiz said that Chief Minister Punjab has fulfilled the promise of regularizing the Lady Health Workers and they would work as regular government servants. He said that government has acknowledged the services of Lady Health Workers through their regularization. He further said that Community Midwives playing a key role in promoting mother & child health especially in the look after of pregnant women. He said that government is evolving training modules for CMWs on modern lines and their number of posts would also be enhanced.

On this occasion, the speakers lauded the services of LHWs and CMWs and said that these paramedics are in the frontline of healthcare system. They said that Lady Health Workers played a significant role in anti-dengue campaign especially in door-to-door vector surveillance activities. Later, awards were distributed among the 72 Lady Health Workers and Community Midwives showing best performance at district level.
