Lahore: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that terrorism in Pakistan is a fairly complex phenomenon and could not be understood outside the context of geo-politics. He was addressing a seminar on the “Analysis of the newly formulated Security Policy of Pakistan in countering terrorism and insurgency” organized by the Center for Peace and Security Studies, Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS).
Renowned academic and security analyst Prof Dr Rifaat Hassan, Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences Prof Dr Zakria Zakir, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
The Vice Chancellor said that Pakistan presently holds a pivotal position global politically. He emphasized that Pakistan should be aware of its true value while dealing with foreign influences financing and perpetrating terrorism in Pakistan.
Dr. Rifaat analyzed the aims and objectives of the security policy of Pakistan and critically analyzed the government’s move of negotiation and conciliation with Taliban. He stated that negotiations with Taliban should continue but only within the framework of the Constitution of Pakistan. He reasoned that dialogues with the Taliban could only be successful if the government negotiated from a position of power. He believed that the state must not give in to the pressure tactics of the militants.
The seminar ended with an insightful question and answer session with the Dr. Rifaat.
