PU VC for promotion of sports at street, school level

Lahore: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that steps must be taken to appreciate and encourage best sportsmen playing at street level to promote sports in the country and win international competitions. He was addressing the sponsorship ceremony to distribute sports gear among various outstanding local clubs and academies of several districts of Punjab at New Campus here on Tuesday.

PU Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Amin Athar, Prof Dr Mansoor Sarwar, Additional Director Sports Shamsa Hashmi, coaches and players of various clubs were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, the PU Vice Chancellor said that efforts must be made to promote sports at school level as well. He said that some universities were trying to influence sports to gain favours and PU players had to fight against such unethical practices as well. He said that the initiative of sponsoring local clubs and academies and provide them with sports gear was to encourage players. He lauded the services of Prof Dr Mansoor Sarwar for sports department.

Addressing the ceremony, Shamsa Hashmi said that Punjab University Women’s team had maintained its first position in HEC’s inter-university sports while men’s team has improved its score and secured second position. She said that PU sports department was making progress and winning competitions because of the encouragement of the vice chancellor.
