Lahore: Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that a 3-member high powered committee has been constituted for evolving a mechanism to resolving genuine problems of teachers of public sector schools in Punjab.The committee will submit its recommendations to Chief Minister Punjab within 15 days.
This decision was taken during a meeting of a delegation of teachers led by President Teachers Union Syed Sajjad Akbar Kazmi with Minister for Education after which Muttahida Mahaz of teachers and Punjab Teachers Union announced to call off their sit-in and boycott. General Secretary Rana Liaqat Ali, Zafar Sindhu, Mian Maqsood, Rao Noor Ahmed, Saeed Namdar, Tariq Sharif and Mubarak Ali were also present on this occasion.
Minister Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan assured the leaders of Punjab Teachers Union that government will resolve all their genuine problems as without cooperation of teachers, neither the youth could be equipped with modern education nor the vision of Chief Minister Punjab of producing good citizen could be realized.
He said that teachers have deep respect and their contributions to the society are invaluable. He said that government has all respect for teachers and need their cooperation for the supremacy of merit in the society. He said that there is a need to empower the children so that they could emerge as good citizens after completing their education and show the world that Pakistanis have a positive approach.
He said that teachers, nurses and doctors enjoy respect in every society and it is the responsibility of the government to accept their genuine demands before they take to the streets.
President Punjab Teachers Union Syed Sajjad Akbar Kazmi announced to end educational boycott by the teachers and said that it is the desire of teacher’s community that quality of education should be improved and 100% literacy rate should be achieved.
Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan while replying to a question by the media regarding leakage of paper of 5th class said that the elements involved in such practices will be taken to task. He said that the government has transferred two officers of concerned section and posted them as OSD while action will also be taken against other guilty official. He said that government should be given credit for taking timely action on leakage of paper and distributing alternate paper and thus saving academic year of students.
