DF won GCU Staff Inter-departmental Cricket Tournament

GCU SPORTS (5)GCU SPORTS (1) GCU SPORTS (2) GCU SPORTS (3) GCU SPORTS (4)Lahore: The Government College University, Lahore Registrar Office has held a week-long “GCU Staff Inter-departmental Cricket Tournament” on the directions of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman to engage the university staff in healthy sports activities. As many as eight teams participated in the cricket tournament which was won by the team of Directorate of Facilities (DF) beating the Treasurer Office in the final by 10 runs. The team DF remained unbeaten throughout the tournament due to its strong batting order. Shahid Usman from GCU Treasurer Office was declared bowler of the tournament for his hat-trick in semi-final against Examination Department.

Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony, which also attended by Registrar Dr Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Director Facilities Yousaf Bashir and Non-gazetted Staff Association President Khaliq Hussain.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman said the GCU staff members had a very crucial role in the smooth functioning of university’s affairs and they were as important as students and faculty of the university. He said he would continue to organise such healthy recreational activities for them, so that they do their work with more commitment and dedication. He also announced holding more sports tournaments for the staff members.

The Vice Chancellor applauded the efforts of chief organiser, Atif Asalm and other members of organising team for successfully holding the tournament in which staff members from the rank of Director Facilities and Deputy Treasurer to Junior Clerk and Naib Qasid participated. He said all staff members were equal and were like family members to each other. Later, Prof Rahman gave away shields to the participants of the tournament.
