Australia win Women’s T-20 World Cup

Australians are celebrating their winAustralians celebrating their winAustralia have won the Women’s T-20 World Cup defeating England by six wickets at Dhaka today (Sunday).

Batting first, England set a target of 105 runs for the loss of eight wickets in its twenty overs innings. In reply, Australia easily achieved the target in 15.1 overs for the loss of four wickets.

England medium-pacer Anya Shrubsole was today named as the Women’s Player of the Tournament after the final of the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Dhaka today.

Shrubsole was the unanimous choice of the select group of experts* following her consistently strong form. The 22-year-old grabbed 12 wickets at an average of 5.75 in the lead up to the final, including three for six against India and three for nine against Sri Lanka.England medium-pacer Anya Shrubsole

Collecting her trophy at the post-match presentation, Shrubsole said: “It is clearly disappointing to finish as runner-up, but we got to the final, which is a wonderful achievement.

 

“To be named as Women’s Player of the Tournament is humbling, and it is also a reflection of the hard work we’ve all put in as a team. I would have loved for us to win the title, but it wasn’t to be for us this year.”
