Doctors hold dengue awareness walk

Khawaja Salman Rafique 1-04-14Khawaja Salman Rafique 1-4-14Lahore: Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that complete community participation is very essential for eradication of dengue. He said that the effective weapon against dengue is the awareness of public regarding preventive measure so that people could protect themselves from dengue mosquito and keep their houses clean and dry to remove breeding grounds of dengue breeding.

He stated this while talking to media men after concluding the dengue awareness walk from Post Graduate Medical Institute, Birdwood Road to Shadman Chowk here on Monday. The awareness walk was organized by Post Graduate Medical Institute and Amiruddin Medical College. Principal Prof. Dr. Anjum Habib Vohra, MS Lahore General Hospital Dr. Pervaiz Imtiaz, President PMA Lahore Dr. Tanvir Anwar and a large number of students and nurses participated in the walk. Khawaja Salman further said that, as per directions of the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, laid down SOPs for dengue control have been enforced in Punjab from 15th February and Dengue surveillance, larvae-ciding and case response has been started in sensitive districts. He said that, in spite of all government’s arrangements for dengue control, enthusiastic participation of public in dengue control measures is essential because, if people do not remove the hot spots of dengue breeding from inside the houses and keep the surroundings clean and dry, dengue would not be fully controlled.

On this occasion, Principal Prof. Anjam Habib Vohra said that there is no solution of dengue, except prevention against the disease. He urged upon the youngsters to come forward for creating awareness against the diseases. He lauded the efforts of Chief Minister Punjab regarding dengue control and said that due to these efforts, the number of dengue patients had minimized during the last two years.

At the end of the walk, Khawaja Salman Raffique, Prof Anjam Habib Vohra and other participants distributed pamphlets among the citizens at Shadman Chowk for disseminating information regarding preventive measures against dengue.
