Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) has expressed concern over deplorable conspiracy of bringing bad name to ideal peoples’ friendly service Traffic Warden and ultimately scrapping it and said that this graduate youth comprising dignified service established by Ch Parvez Elahi was an ideal service, Shahbaz Sharif could not scrap it like other peoples’ welfare projects and measures of our tenure but has been given unrealistic targets of challans instead of its real objective of controlling the traffic, this service was fast losing its utility because of wrong thinking and steps of the rulers and label of being anti-people was being put on it.
PML Punjab General Secretary Ch Zaheeruddin Khan and Senior Vice-President Muhammad Basharat Raja have in a joint statement issued here today said that for the first time in the history of Punjab forcible extraction and corruption was eliminated from traffic system by this service established in 2006 which was not only lavishly praised in the report of the Transparency International but also in 2009 according to a survey of the Transparency International people had opined that this useful service should also be introduced in other parts of the country and confirmed that corruption had ended in Traffic Department.
Both the leaders asked the Punjab Govt to better come to its senses, this service established in the interest of the people should be used for controlling the traffic and not for collecting funds for wasteful expenditures of the rulers.
The PML leaders further said that special attention was paid to the training of traffic wardens recruited during our tenure, special lectures were arranged by the experts for adopting friendly attitude and behaving pleasantly with the people, present rulers have ended the training system and instead given them target of maximum challans thus making the traffic wardens anti-people rather than the peoples friendly and the govt was after ending this service in the near future on the basis of disputes between traffic wardens and the people.
