Express News Raza Roomi has lucky escape in deadly attack

Lahore: Express News Anchor Raza Rumi has a lucky escape in a deadly attack by  Some unidentified armed men opened fire on his car near Raja Market. The driver and his guard were injured in the incident later driver succumbed to his injuries in hospital .

Rumi said that although he had not received any direct threats but he was reportedly on the hit list of some extremist organisations.

Talking to media Rumi said, “I never wanted anyone to get hurt because of me.”

Narrating the incident, Rumi said “As soon as firing started I ducked, and hid myself between the car seats,” said Rumi. He added that when the firing stopped he saw that the driver was severely injured and the guard was calling for help.

“One private company guard brought us a rickshaw to rush the injured to the hospital and then police arrived.”

Juornalists bodies have express their anger over the incident and said that government had completely failed to provide protection to journalist community.President Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari and president PUJ Waseem Farooq Shahid have condemned the incident and announcedthier protest on Saturday evening outside Punjab Assembly.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif while taking strict notice of the incident of firing on the car of Anchor of Express News Raza Roomi has sought report from IG Punjab. The Chief Minister directed to immediately arrest the criminals involved in the incident.

He further directed that best medical treatment facilities should be provided to Raza Roomi and the guard in the hospital. Expressing deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of Mustafa, driver of Raza Roomi, Shahbaz Sharif said that attack on Raza Roomi’s vehicle is deplorable and the government will take the criminals involved in this incident to task.

The Chief Minister while expressing condolences with the members of bereaved family prayed that may Allah Almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant strength and courage to them to bear the irreparable loss with equanimity.
