Lahore: Provincial Minister for Women Development, Hameeda Waheed ud Din has said that elimination of discrimination against women in all forms is essential so that they could play a positive role in national development.
She was presiding over a meeting of provincial implementation committee on international convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women (CEDAW) at the secretary office of Women Development Department at Johar Town, here today.
Provincial Secretary Women Development Irum Bukhari as well as representatives of Planning & Development, Local Government, School Education, Law & Parliamentary Affairs, Social Welfare, Health, Population Welfare, Higher Education and Labour departments besides Shirkat Gah and Aurat Foundation were present. Provincial Secretary Irum Bukhari informed the meeting about the aims and objectives of the CEDAW.
Provincial Minister Hameeda Waheed ud Din said that distribution of pamphlets and posters with the assistance of Aurat Foundation and Shirkat Gah regarding the measures taken by Punjab government for elimination of violence against women and upholding of their rights will soon be started and monitoring of the awareness campaign in all districts will be ensured.
She said that the purpose of women packages of 2012 and 2014 is also curbing of discrimination against women and protection of their rights. The Minister further said that legislation will soon be made for the protection of the rights of women workers and technical training will be imparted to one thousand women with the assistance of International Labour Organization.
