Australia captain Meg Lanning and England’s Danielle Hazell will start the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 as the number-one ranked batter and bowler on the Reliance ICC Women’s Player Rankings for T20Is.
The 10-team tournament gets underway on Sunday, 23 March,
with defending champion Australia playing New Zealand at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet. This match will start at 1530 local time, and then, at 1930, Pakistan will take on South Africa.
England’s pair of Sarah Taylor (second) and Charlotte Edwards (third) are the highest-ranked batters for their side. Taylor, on 666 ratings points, is 15
ratings points behind Lanning, but leads her captain Edwards by just three ratings points.
Other batters inside the top 10 include New Zealand’s Suzie Bates (fourth), India’s Mithali Raj (fifth) and Poonam Raut (seventh), and the West Indies trio of Deandra Dottin (sixth), Stafanie Taylor (eighth) and Clare Shillington (10th).
There is a close tussle from third to sixth position on the bowlers’ table, with only 14 ratings points separating Morna Nielsen from Udeshika Prabodhani.
Pakistan has the most bowlers in the top 10, with three, namely Sadia Yousuf (eighth), Nida Dar (ninth) and captain Sana Mir (10th).
West Indies’ Stafanie Taylor heads the Reliance ICC Women’s Player Rankings for T20I All-rounders, followed by Sri Lanka captain Shashikala Siriwardena in second place and Ireland’s Isobel Joyce in third position.
The number of teams in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 has been increased from eight to 10. The first round matches of the women’s event will take place in Sylhet from 23 March to 2 April, with the top two sides from each Group progressing to the semi-finals, which will be played in Dhaka.
The 10 sides have been divided into two Groups, which are:
Group A – Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, Ireland
Group B – England, West Indies, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh
Host Bangladesh will make its maiden appearance on the world stage on 26 March, when it will play last year’s semi-finalist, West Indies. Defending champion Australia will commence its quest for a third consecutive title in the tournament opener on 23 March, while 2009 champion England will start its campaign on 24 March against the West Indies.
This is the fourth edition of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20. England won at home in 2009 before Australia lifted the trophy in 2010 and 2012 in the West Indies and Sri Lanka.
