Punjab Government dispatches relief items for drought stricken people of Thar

Lahore: Member National Assembly, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif said that death of children in Thar due to malnutrition is a human tragedy. He said that Sindh government remained busy in cultural show and neglected the human sufferings. It is the responsibility of Sindh government to hold an inquiry and fix responsibility for bringing the persons responsible for this tragic situation to task. He was talking to media on the occasion of dispatch of ten trucks of relief items for drought stricken people of Thar, here today. Director General Punjab Disaster Management Authority Muhammad Asif, Provincial Minister Waheed Arain and Assembly Members were also present on the occasion. Relief items worth Rs. one core including 75 thousand kg rice and 20 thousand mineral water bottles have been sent for the affectees while 30 more trucks of relief goods will be sent tomorrow.

Hamza Shahbaz Sharif said that problems and sufferings of the calamity stricken people of Thar are a matter of serious concern for the nation and Punjab government fully shares the grief of the mothers whose children died of starvation.

Hamza Shahbaz  said that when Sindh government was contacted, it informed that no help was needed. However, he said, Punjab government has kept up its tradition of helping the distressed people of every province in the time of need and sent relief items for the drought stricken people of Thar. He said that politics of PML-N is aimed at service to the people and their welfare.

Hamza Shahbaz Sharif further said that immediately after receiving the news of the tragedy in Thar, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ordered Army to reach the affected areas and initiate relief operation. He said that Prime Minister and Chief Minister are also reaching the calamity-hit areas. He said that there is a need to hold inquiry against the elements responsible of this sad situation.
