Lahore: Provincial Minister for Education, Tourism, Sports and
Archaeology Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that government has
decided to recruit male and female students in government and semi
government autonomous institutions for setting up hockey and cricket
teams. Matches between the teams of these institutions would help in
promotion of hockey and cricket.
He was talking to media on the occasion of quarter final matches of
Women Cricket gala at the cricket ground of Kinnard College Lahore at
the beginning of inter-divisional cricket, table tennis and basketball
contests under Punjab Youth Festival, here today. Director Women
Cricket Tournament Nosheen Hanif and a large number of women cricket
enthusiasts were present on the occasion.
A 6-over hardball cricket match was played between the cricket teams of Lahore and Faisalabad in the quarter final. Quarter final matches are also being held between Sargodha and Bahawalpur divisions, Sahiwal and Rawalpindi divisions and Gujranwala and Multan divisions. Four teams winning these matches will play in semi final.
Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan appreciated the performance of girl students
and said that the winners of inter divisional contests of Punjab Youth
Festival 2014 will not only be awarded cash prizes and commendatory
certificates by Punjab government but elected representatives,
assembly members and administrative officers will also hold functions
in their honour when they would reach their native cities and town. He
said that officers and public representatives will also pay visit to
their houses to congratulate their parents for bringing a good name
for the country at international level.
Minister for Sports further said that Punjab government has pointed out three open places to the team of Guinness World Records for setting the world record of singing national anthem and it is expected that this record will be set in the ground of University of Engineering and Technology Lahore near Kala
