Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that action against certain Taliban groups enjoying the backing of RAW and CIA would be in line with the nation’s sentiments.
Talking to the media at Mansoora after addressing the Kissan convention on Thursday, he said that according to the military high ups, certain Taliban groups had the backing of RAW and CIA. He said that US and India’s conspiracies in Balochistan had already come to fore and the JI had repeatedly drawn the government attention to that. He said that action against the groups having enemy patronage and the policy of dialogue with the other Taliban groups would be in accordance with the nation’s aspirations.
The JI chief said this was a decisive moment for the nation and the country and the issue to be decided was who were Terrorists and who were Taliban.
He said the nation had full confidence in its military and political institutions and any action against the terrorists would have the support of the whole nation.
The JI chief called for immediate end to the aerial strikes in north Waziristan and said this operation was causing more damage to the civilian population than the terrorists. He said that thousands of people had been forced to leave their homes in North Waziristan. He stressed upon the Khyber P government to set up camps for these people and also called for a huge campaign at the official level to mitigate the sufferings of the displaced families.
He stressed upon the dialogue committees from both sides to convene their meetings and try to bring the government and the Taliban on the negotiation table.
Syed Munawar Hasan condemned MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s statement calling for military take over and said this was undemocratic and unconstitutional. He said that the MQM was not a part of the government, yet it had representation in the parliament. Therefore, Altaf Husain should withdraw his statement and let democracy flourish in the country. He further said that the armed forces were a disciplined institution and would not take notice of Altaf’s statement. However, he said that the government should have taken serious note of such a harmful statement.
Referring to the reports about rigging in the May 2013 elections, the JI chief said it was the responsibility of the Election Commission and the government to answer the queries and objections being raised on this core so that the unrest prevailing in the public could be over. He said if the masses lost faith in the electoral process, they could take any other course as would be disastrous.
