Lahore High Court Complaint Cell took notice of a press report on administrative side that a 16-year-old maid was strangled to death allegedly after being raped in the Faisal Town.
The Cell has directed the District & Sessions Judge, Lahore to look into the matter and submit a detailed report regarding steps taken by police along with his own comments within a week.
According to details, the deceased, an orphan minor, resident of Pattoki, was working as a maid for the last three months at a house in the Mochipura area of Faisal Town. The investigation officer said that the maid was found lying on the stairs of the house with a rope around her neck. He said, Shoukat Sheikh, the owner of the house informed the police on the phone that his maid committed suicide over unknown reasons. However, police did not believe the owner’s statement, as there was no hook or other support at the crime scene which the victim allegedly used to hang herself.
Police removed the body to the city mortuary for an autopsy and registered a case against three real brothers Asim, Atif and Babar on the complaint of the deceased’s mother, Shamim Bibi, on the charges of murder and rape. However, no arrests could be made.
As per press report, Azra’s mother believed that her daughter was raped and then murdered. Police collected evidence from the crime scene and started investigation on different angles. Cause of death would be ascertained after receipt of post-mortem report and conclusion of investigation.
